Foundations of Cardiovascular-Kidney-MetaboIic (CKM) Syndrome and Risk Identification

This module provides a deep dive into CKM syndrome, a framework describing the systemic interconnection between cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease (CKD), diabetes, obesity, and steatotic liver disease. Participants will learn to move beyond treating individual conditions in isolation, instead adopting a holistic “CKM lens” to identify risk across four clinical stages—from Stage 0 (no risk factors) to Stage 4 (established clinical disease). The course emphasizes screening strategies that incorporate both biological markers—such as eGFR and urine albumin-creatinine ratio (uACR)—and social determinants of health to effectively mitigate long-term morbidity and mortality.
